[Great News] Man Utd Agree £80m Deal For Leicester Defender "Harry Maguire" (See Details)

[Great News] Man Utd Agree £80m Deal For Leicester Defender "Harry Maguire" (See Details)

Manchester United have reached an agreement to sign England centre-back Harry Maguire from Leicester for £80m - a world-record fee for a defender.

The 26-year-old is expected to complete a medical at the club at the weekend.

He becomes United's third summer signing following Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James, who arrived from Crystal Palace and Swansea respectively.
Maguire made 69 Premier League appearances for Leicester after joining from Hull City in 2017.

The deal means Maguire becomes the world's most expensive defender, eclipsing the £75m Liverpool paid Southampton for Virgil van Dijk in January 2018.

United had a long-standing interest in Maguire but they backed away from a deal 12 months ago because they felt the £70m that would be needed for a transfer to be concluded was too high.

He signed a five-year contract at Leicester last September and manager Brendan Rodgers made it clear at the end of the season he felt Maguire could develop even more if he remained at the club.

#Sports!! De Ligt’s Agent Finally Reveals Why He Snubbed Barcelona For Juventus

#Sports!! De Ligt’s Agent Finally Reveals Why He Snubbed Barcelona For Juventus

Mino Raiola, the agent of Matthijs de Ligt, has said the player chose Juventus over other clubs, because “for a defender it is important to come to Italy”.

De Ligt landed in Turin on Tuesday evening and underwent a medical on Wednesday, ahead of completing a €75million move from Ajax.

The 19-year-old had been heavily tipped to join Barcelona for much of the season and follow fellow Ajax youngster Frenkie de Jong to Camp Nou.

But Juve have won the race to sign De Ligt and Raiola believes playing in Serie A will offer De Ligt the best chance to improve as a player.

“Barcelona? You all wrote so much bullsh*t!” he told reporters in Turin when asked whether De Ligt was making the right choice in joining the Italian champions.

“It’s not a question of who wanted him most, but Juve are the best team for him. For a defender, it is important to come to Italy. If you are to become the greatest in the world, it is a necessary stage.

“He’s the number one among the youngsters. He’s like [Pavel] Nedved, maybe more than him, for his mentality and he’s like Zlatan [Ibrahimovic] for his ambition. He has it all.”

Hot News!! West Ham Star Defender Makes Announcement On Joining Man United

West Ham United defender, Issa Diop, has finally decided to leave the club for Manchester United this summer, as reported by Telofoot.

According to the French newspaper, the 22-year-old is eager to join Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side ahead of next season.

The report also claimed that West Ham have rejected an initial offer from the Red Devils in excess of £40million plus a player for the France international.

Man United will now have to improve on their offer in order to land the centre-back to Old Trafford in this summer transfer window.

Diop joined the Hammers from Ligue 1 side, Toulouse last summer, for £22 million.

The player instantly formed a first-choice partnership at West Ham’s back four with fellow arrival, Fabian Balbuena.

He started 33 games in 38 Premier League matches for West Ham’s last campaign.

Just In!! ‘Super Eagles Have No Star Player’ - Says Gernot Rohr

Just In!! ‘Super Eagles Have No Star Player’ - Says Gernot Rohr

Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, has said that his squad for the 2019 African Cup of Nations has no star player.

The German, however, expressed confident that Nigeria will qualify for the knockout stage.

Nigeria will do battle with Burundi in their Group B opener before games against Guinea on June 26 and Madagascar June 30.

”I think we have a young team without any stars. There are not many great players like Nigeria had in the 80s or 90s but our young team will be able to come out of the group and to try to go far,” Rohr told DW Kick off.

The former Burkina Faso coach also spoke of the challenges being faced by up-and-coming footballers in Nigeria today and complained about the lack of infrastructure.
”The grassroots is very important especially for Nigeria. Nigeria has so many young people who like football so much. They must have opportunity to play.”

Complete History of Africa Cup of Nations From A-Z [ Find Out How It All Started]

Complete History of Africa Cup of Nations From A-Z [ Find Out How It All Started]

The Africa Cup of Nations, more popularly known as AFCON, is the biggest international association football competition in Africa organised by the Confederation African Football (CAF).

The tournament is regulated by the Confederation of African Football, football’s governing body in Africa and is recognized by FIFA. The first competition was held in 1957 and it featured only African nations who had established football associations at the time. Egypt, Sudan, South Africa and Ethiopia proposed the creation of the Confederation of African Football during the third FIFA congress held in Lisbon in June 1956 as well as a continental football tournament.
The competition was eventually held in February 1957 in the city of Khartoum, Sudan. South Africa insisted on selecting only white players for their squad due to its apartheid policy. This led to their disqualification from the tournament and as a consequence Ethiopia were handed a straight route to the final where they lost to Egypt who had beaten hosts Sudan in the other semi-final.

This victory began the dominance of Egypt at the African Nations Cup as they hosted and won the competition again two years later. In 1962, six other nations joined the founding three so teams had to play one another to qualify for the semi-finals. Nigeria and Tunisia joined reigning champions Egypt, and hosts Ethiopia in the last four. Egypt’s reign as champions finally ended after they lost to Ethiopia in Addis Ababa after extra-time.

Since then, the tournament has grown so much that it has become necessary to hold a qualifying tournament. The number of participants that reach the final tournament has also grown from the 3 teams that started in 1958 to 24 in 2019. From 1996 to 2017, 16 teams participated in the AFCON Finals ( apart from 1996 and 2010 when Nigeria and Togo withdrew respectively).

The 32nd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations will hold this summer of 2019 in Egypt who are still the most successful nation in the cup’s history. The Pharaohs have won the tournament a record of seven times. This includes the time when Egypt was known as the United Arab Republic between 1958 and 1961.
Cameroon and Ghana have also enjoyed great success in the competition having conquered Africa five and four times respectively making them the most successful nations after Egypt. Three different trophies have been awarded during the tournament’s history, with Ghana and Cameroon winning the first two versions to keep after each of them won the tournament three times.

The Black stars of Ghana established themselves as a force to reckoned with in African football as early as the 4th edition of the tournament in 1963. They hosted the competition and won it on home soil by defeating Sudan in the final. They proved that their victory in 1963 was not a fluke by repeating their title winning performance in Tunisia two years later despite selecting only two players from the 1963 team.

Ghana reached the next two finals (1968, 1970), but lost both times to Democratic Republic of Congo (Zaire) and Sudan respectively. The tournament was televised for the first time during the 1970 tournament in Sudan, as the hosts lifted the trophy after defeating Ghana—who were playing their fourth consecutive final. Sudan’s victory in 1970 also ended the dominance of Egypt and Ghana who had won four of the first five tournaments.

Six different nations won titles from 1970 to 1980: Sudan, Congo-Brazzaville, Zaire, Morocco, Ghana, and Nigeria. Zaire’s second title in the 1974 edition (they won their first as the Democratic Republic of Congo) came after facing Zambia in the finalk.

For the only time to date in the history of the competition, the match had to be replayed as the first contest between the two sides ended in a 2–2 draw after extra time. The final was re-staged two days later with Zaire winning 2–0.

Morocco also won their first title in the 1976 African Nations Cup held in Ethiopia and Ghana claimed its third championship in 1978, becoming the first nation to win three titles. As the first winner of three African Cup of Nations tournaments, Ghana obtained the right to permanently keep the original silver trophy named after the first CAF President Abdelaziz Abdallah Salem, in 1978.
The 1980 tournament saw the rise of another super power in African football as the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon began their decade of dominance. Between 1980 and 1990, Cameroon managed to reach the final of the African Cup three times in a row, winning the competition twice in 1984 and 1988 and losing once on penalties against Egypt in the 1986 edition.

The only team that tried to match Cameroon during this period was Algeria. The Desert Warriors made the continent proud on the global stage with their solid 1982 and decent 1986 World Cup appearances. However, they failed to secure the Nations Cup as the North African nation lost in the final against hosts Nigeria in the 1980 tournament allowing the Super Eagles to capture their first championship. After the 1980 edition, Algeria reached the semi finals of every edition expect the 1986 cup until they eventually won the competition in 1990.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria also established themselves as a stronghold in African football after becoming the ‘Giants of Africa’ for other reasons. Nigeria, who had just qualified to the World Cup for the first time in their history, won the 1994 tournament in Tunisia. The Super Eagles beat Zambia, who a year before had been struck by disaster when most of their national squad died in a plane crash while traveling to play a 1994 World Cup qualification match.

South Africa returned to the competition for the first time since they were disqualified from the first edition of the tournament. They hosted the 20th edition of the competition in 1996, marking their first ever appearance after a decades long ban was lifted with the end of apartheid in the country and a failed attempt to qualify in 1994.
Nigeria pulled out of the competition for political reasons and could not defend their crown. Bafana Bafana won their first title on home soil, defeating Tunisia in the final.

The 2000 edition of the Africa Cup of Nations was a historical one as Ghana and Nigeria co-hosted the competition. This was the first time that two countries would host the tournament. Nigeria lost a pulsating final on home soil to the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon who claimed their third title. They defended their crown two years later to become back-to-back champions for the first time since Ghana in 1962.

The 2004 edition saw hosts Tunisia beat fellow North-Africans Morocco in the final to lift the title before another period of dominance emerged in the competition. Egypt finally reclaimed their spot as the top team in African football after winning three consecutive titles ( 2006, 2008, 2010) for the first time in the history of the competition.

The current gold-plated trophy was first awarded in 2002 and with Egypt winning it indefinitely after winning their unprecedented third consecutive title in 2010.

In 2008, FIFA president Sepp Blatter expressed a desire to see the competition played in odd-numbered years so it does not clash with the FIFA World Cup. This wish was finally granted when CAF made the decision to shift the tournament to odd-numbered years. After the 2012 edition which was hosted by Gabon/Equatorial Guinea and won by Zambia, another edition was held in 2013 in South Africa and it was won by the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

The 2015 edition was won by the golden generation of Ivory Coast who had a lot of superstars that played in some of the best clubs in Europe. Although they had a galaxy of stars and had impressed in the previous competitions, they were unable to win the title until 2015 despite reaching the finals of the 2006 and 2012 editions.
In 2017, two super powers of African football, Egypt and Cameroon clashed in the final of the competition which was hosted by Gabon. Cameroon secured their fifth title and first since 2002 after a 2-1 win over Egypt. Egypt won the rights to host the 2017 edition and would be hoping to build on their great success in the competition by lifting another title on home soil.

Over the years, the African Cup of Nations have produced legendary stars like Abedi Pele Ayew, Samuel Eto’o, Didier Drogba, Emmanuel Amuneke, Rigobert Song, and Aboutrika. Fans of African football will hope to see the best players the continent has on offer during the 32nd edition of AFCON in Egypt.
What do you hope to see at the 2019 AFCON with begin June 21?

On Sports: Manchester United finally takes decision on the transfer of England star

On Sports: Manchester United finally takes decision on the transfer of England star

Manchester United and Manchester City have hit the pause button on what looked set to be the bidding war of the summer after the player they were targeting had a hefty price-tag slapped on him.
Pep Guardiola is not the kind of manager to sit back and rest on his laurels after a stellar season that saw his City side do the English domestic double, and he had earmarked a number of players to strengthen his squad.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, meanwhile, is keen on a root and branch deconstruction of his ragged United side, and badly wants defenders, midfielders, wingers, strikers and whatever you’re having yourself.

Both clubs have been watching Leicester and England centre-back Harry Maguire for at least a year but his club have now priced him at €100m, with neither Manchester club happy to fork it over, according to Metro Sport.

Despite Ajax teen sensation Matthijs de Ligt hinting that he is still open to a potential move to United, who have offered a sizeable financial package, it is believed that he will ultimately move to Barcelona and so United want to keep their options open.

Jose Mourinho tried to get Maguire last summer but the board were unwilling to put up the then €85m Leicester wanted.

Now, with this new price, City have cooled their interest considerable while United are looking at alternatives.

Manchester United set to Battle Arsenal and Tottenham to sign one of the best defenders in EPL

Manchester United in a bid to strengthen their defence are going to do battle with Tottenham and Arsenal to sign Harry Maguire from Leicester City and his club will reportedly demand no less than £60 million for Harry Maguire, which would make him the most expensive-ever British defender.
Leicester City defender Harry Maguire is expected to play his last game for the club this weekend, with four Premier League clubs preparing for a bidding war for the defender in the summer.

Manchester United, Tottenham, Arsenal and Chelsea (should they manage to have the Fifa transfer ban suspended) are all keen to sign Maguire. But Leicester will reportedly demand no less than £60 million (69 million euros) for the 26-year-old, which would be a record fee paid for a British defender.

Since joining Leicester from Hull in 2017, Maguire has become one of the most sought-after defenders in the Premiership and played a vital role in England’s road to the World Cup semi-final in Russia last summer, scoring a goal in the Three Lions’ 2-0 win over Sweden at the last-eight stage.

Maguire emerged as a top target for the Red Devils last summer and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is said to be keen to revive United’s interest in the 26-year-old at the end of the season. Manchester United, who will finish outside of the top four in the Premier League, have already shipped more than 50 goals this term and Solskjaer believes defensive reinforcements are needed. Maguire could be set to make his final appearance for Leicester when the Foxes entertain Chelsea on Sunday but the England man may not be heading to Old Trafford.

Former Juventus midfielder Simone Pepe has spoken to Sky Sport 24 about his former club, amid reports that club coach Massimiliano Allegri may be leaving the club, with an offer from French giants PSG on the table.
“Allegri? At the beginning I was among the critics but then he showed with the results and proved to be an important coach. With Ronaldo, it is even more difficult to play as a team because the game is all about him. You try to get it to him and that’s why the game can be played less well.

“Conte? Any project put in front of him must be a winning project, because he wants that. If the project does not convince him he will not accept. “Icardi? Revealed: ‘Why We Lost To Tottenham’- Ajax Captain, De Ligt

Ajax captain, Matthijs de Ligt has blamed Erik Ten Hag’s men following their 3-2 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League semi-final second leg on Wednesday night at Amsterdam.

Tottenham were beaten 1-0 from the first leg and Matthijs de Ligt scored after just five minutes in Amsterdam with Hakim Ziyech doubling the Dutch club’s lead to 3-0 on aggregate in the first half.

However, Lucas Moura scored a second-half hat-trick to send Mauricio Pochettino’s side to the Champions League final.

De Ligt blamed Ajax players for their poor performance during the second half of the match, adding that their defeat to Spurs was like a nightmare.

“It’s a nightmare, like a dream that went bad,” De Light was quoted by Express UK as saying after the match.
“We played well in the first half, we had it all our way.
“We didn’t keep up the same pressure in the second half.
“We gave silly goals away. We were so close to the final, and then the ball goes in. Unbelievable.”

Ajax 2-3 Tottenham: Moura comeback hat-trick sends Spurs to historic Champions League final

Ajax 2-3 Tottenham: Moura comeback hat-trick sends Spurs to historic Champions League final

Tottenham Hotspur defeated Ajax to qualify for their first ever UEFA Champions League final after coming from two goals down in the first half, but a second-half hat-trick from Lucas Moura sends the North London team to the historic final.
Another early goal for the Dutch side just after four minutes, but this time from the captain, Matthijs de Ligt, who headed home a corner kick from Lasse Schoene. Spurs captain Hugo Lloris was forced to a save after Dusan Tadic unleashes a powerful strike from the edge of Spurs’ box. The home team made no mistake from the corner kick.

DELIGHT FOR AJAX!

The hosts take a 2-0 lead on aggregate through 19-year-old captain Matthijs de Ligt. (via @brlive)

With that goal, Matthijs de Ligt joins an elite team of young players to have scored in the UEFA Champions League semifinal, including Nigeria’s Obafemi Martins.

4 - Matthijs de Ligt is the fourth teenager to score in a Champions League semi-final, after Nordin Wooter (1996, Ajax), Obafemi Martins (2003, Inter Milan) and Kylian Mbappé (2017, Monaco). Colossus.

Spurs almost levelled immediately with Son sending in a low cross-shot that evades Onana, but fortunately for the hosts, it clips away off the base of the upright.
A reckless ball from Onana threatens to put Ajax in trouble in the 30th minute, but instead of caving under pressure, Ten Hag’s side calmly play their way out from the back. Tadic leads the counter, squaring up Alderweireld before getting around his former Southampton team-mate and thumping a low effort across the face of goal, inches wide.
Moroccan forward Hakim Ziyech made it two in the 36th minutes after Tadic took the ball over Trippier, and combines with Dolberg. The former Southampton man then picks up his head and plays an inch-perfect cut-back to Ziyech, who slams an exquisite first-time finish into the far corner.
Tottenham came in the second half with real business, as they started off like they did in the first leg of the encounter as Dele Alli force Onana to a great save after a chipped pass from Eriksen found the England international, but the Cameroonian goalkeeper produced a great save.
Moments later, Lucas Moura pulled one back for Spurs, as Rose produced a brilliant bit of skill from to set up a counter attack, Alli racing clear before turning the ball into Moura’s path, and he places a brilliant finish beyond Onana.
Four minutes later, Tottenham are levelled. A defensive blunder between Onana and midfielder Shoene after the goalkeeper made a great save gifter Moura with another chance and the Brazilian made no mistake as he picked the bottom left corner.

Lucas M makes it 2-2 for the visitors....if Tottenham scores once more its through to the final but Ajax still holding on..

Both Ziyech and Jan Vertoghen came close to scoring form their clubs, as the Ajax forward’s shot rattled off the upright while their Belgian’s free header beat Onana, but came off the crossbar.

Ziyech hits the post. Inches away from killing off the tie with his second goal of the game, but are still alive.....

It’s a hat-trick, it’s amazing. Lucas Moura has proved the hero, somehow getting to a loose ball first and slotting a precise finish into the bottom-left corner.
It’s over, it’s an all English final in the 2018-2019 UEFA Champions League final at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium in Spain.
